THE SMAK PARLOUR STORY

Once upon a time, two future-BFFs met while applying black eyeliner in a high school bathroom somewhere in the Philly 'burbs. Abby was standing, Katie was there, two worlds collided… and they had nothing to wear. So they grazed thrift stores and flea markets, cutting up and re-assembling their finds. The halls of high school became their runway. They went off to college together, took all the same classes, and continued to design clothes, analyze looks, dress up and dream up new outfits. A line of ladies forever snaked from Abby and Katie's dorm closet, each searching for outfit nirvana within their extensive joint clothing collection. The girls' shared dream was taking shape.

After a brief NYC move, the girls moved back to Philly and turned their clothing creations into a wholesale line called Smak. Spending every waking moment with each other through the years gave them a twin-like intuition; thoughts flowed, ideas gelled, and the creative process was a breeze. They showed Smak to boutiques across the country and got orders, re-orders and re-orders galore! Self-proclaimed Smak addicts wrote love letters to the girls' clothing line, giving them the confidence to open their very own boutique. But, where?

Two long years of searching for the right space followed. A literal leap of faith (made by Abby from a car after spying a "For Sale" sign in a shop window) led them to the promised land, and in 2005, Smak Parlour was born—right on Market Street in Old City.

Together the girls accomplished much from their pretty pink corner of Philly, but what of their fans in far-flung lands? They deserved their Smak fix, too! So, thanks to clever friends and lots of determination, smakparlour.com came to be in 2011.

As always, Abby and Katie design what they love, and continue to search for pieces that would thrill the coolest girl in every room. Smak Parlour and smakparlour.com are always filled with new goodies that perfectly toe the line between girly and rock 'n' roll.
